Pickin' Chicken® App Reviews

Stupid app- should be free

not worth 3$

Suggestions

Needs more photos of both sexes, colours, chicks and eggs. Suggestions for compatible breeds in a free range flock would be helpful. Need an iPad version!

Good app.

I like it a lot! We have one half acre and we were thinking about getting some chickens, and this app had helped lots, because we wanted good laying hens that were a little fancy, but we didnt know much about the breeds. U guys should make one for ducks if u havent yet.

Excellent App!

For a novice chicken picker this app is a great resource. Tons of info right at your fingertips.

Fun App!

All information in one place, no looking all over the net. Everything is at your fingertips and its fun to use.

Helpful

I thought the $2.99 price tag was a little steep, but all in all it is a good app for beginners who are not sure what breeds they are looking for. Informative and helpful and the pictures are great

Disappointing

Thought thered be more breeds come up. Only lists one type of Maran, when theres really several types. Information was really limited and didnt give a lot of blue/green egg options.

Not a $2 app

This app has some great features but for $2 I should be able to search for my own criteria (e.g. foraging or confinement) not just egg color & size. I would like to be able to select forager and see all the great foraging breeds, etc. along those lines.

Good apps

This is a good idea to find out what is the best chicken breeds to have or not to have. You never what the breeds are. Good job I am going to get me a chicken soon . I am tired going to the store to get more eggs and I am getting myself a chicken that does not cost me any money for these eggs LoL

Love Chooks

This is a great app to give you fast basic info on many breeds of Chooks.

Not worth $2.99

Yeah, its fun, but for what you get it should be a free app. Not very robust, theres just not a lot to it. I used it once and got all the information I needed. Not enough breeds. There should be more info on chicken husbandry to make worthwhile.

Fun app

Like it fun to play with I do have to say should b a lil cheaper for the info it has.

This App Needs More Work

I bought this app when I was first getting into chicken-keeping, and I made most of my initial choices based on the breed information provided. A couple of years into chicken-keeping and Ive found significant errors and misinformation. One is error "Maran", when the correct name is "Marans", whether singular or plural. Misinformation exists such as statements that certain breeds are not good foragers, or dont free range. As an experienced chicken owner, all of our multiple breeds both free range over our property and forage every single edible item they find. In addition, there is other misinformation regarding egg production, egg size and temperament. We have Barred (Plymouth) Rock, Rhode Island Red, Production Red, Delaware, Australorp, Ameraucana, Sussex, Barnevelder, Orpington, and Wyandotte. My advice is to research everything you can get your hands on, talk to other chicken people and dont make your decisions based on this app. The app seems to have been written by one person with limited experience - Mother Earth News is usually dead-on, but missed the mark this time.

Pickin chickens

Overall, its a great app, but some improvements could be made. Perhaps you could make it so that you can pick chickens based on climate and personality? I think this would be useful for people like me who are going into this as a hobby, rather than for profit, or to get a certain kind of egg. The app is very user friendly, though. Easy to use and has nice pictures to go with almost all of the breeds. Thanks!

Beef & Dairy Cows.... ?

This is a descent app but Im waiting on the one for cattle and other livestock. Your app is so simple and basic.... can you have it completed by next week?

Chickin pickin awesome!

Great app. Have used it over the last two years to start my flock and to bring in new color. Hope to see more breeds and maybe links to hatcheries.

Thanks

A good basic reference.

A good start...

Fun app, but very slim pickings. Id like to see it full of breeds. I would love to see cow, sheep, rabbit, & goat apps too. Hobby Farms are popping up everywhere & so many are looking for info for their first time farming adventures.

Very helpful

I love this app, very helpful and informative , the only complaint is that it needs more breeds pictures, at least pictures of both sexes of each breed, more pics and iPad compatible and it will be worth the 5 stars.
